With the number of people and visitors in national forest increasing every year, minimizing our impact upon these lands will help preserve these treasures for future generations.
- In 1924 - 4 million visitors per year to National Forests.
- In 1990 - 258 million visitors per year to National Forests.
- Increased visitors = increased impact upon National Forests and wilderness areas.
"Leave No Trace" is a concept that focuses on minimizing the impact of human activity in wilderness areas. It is one of the primary practical applications of Outdoor Ethics, the practice of sustainable travel and recreation in rural settings.
The Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics is an educational, nonprofit organization dedicated to the responsible enjoyment and active stewardship of the outdoors by all people, worldwide. Currently, there are over 2500 Leave No Trace Master Educators worldwide representing dozens of countries and all 50 states.
This valuable training is recognized throughout the world by the outdoor industry, land management agencies and outdoor recreation communities. Successful graduates of the Master Educator course have the ability to train others in Leave No Trace skills as well as facilitate Leave No Trace Trainer courses and Awareness Workshops. One of the founders of Sonoran Adventures, Dustin Bellows, is a Leave No Trace Master Educator.
